View from nearly the stratosphere.

On Feb 28, 2009, teacher Jordi Fanals and high school students Gerard Marull, Martí Gasull, Jaume Puigmiquel and Sergi Saballs from the IES La Bisbal school in Catalonia, Spain launched a high-altitude probe with digital camera they designed and built. It rose nearly 19 miles before the helium balloon that carried it burst and it fell back to earth. They were able to recover the camera’s flash card and got some really cool pictures.

Hi everyone. I recently found out about this new company called Aviary who makes bird-themed imaging applications that run in your browser. I have to say what they are doing seems like it’s at the bleeding edge of what’s possible in web tech but it works surprisingly well. You might want to check them out:

NASA PDS Imaging Node
The Planetary Data System has all pictures from every planetary mission NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory have mounted.

ESA Hubble Images
Lots of nice deep-space pictures (stars, galaxies, far-away stuff) from the European Space Agency.

NOAA Photo Gallery
Click the tab “Collections” then select a collection and click “CATALOG” for lots of weather-related imagery.

Kyle Gabler composer of the music for World of Goo has released MP3 versions of the songs on his website you can download for free. If that link isn’t available, try this one. He also describes many of the songs, how he created them and who are his influences.
