Earth

Moonset, over the Caribbean – 10/10/2007 (Image courtesy of the Image Science & Analysis Laboratory, NASA Johnson Space Center)

Lots of Space Pix

The Big Picture: Earth, Observed
Some of the best pictures from NASA’s Earth Observatory. Also here’s an older post called The Sky From Above from the 154th Shuttle mission.

NASA Earth Observatory Image of the Day
A interesting Earth picture or diagram daily.

Astronomy Picture of the Day
NASA & MTU post a new picture every day.

NASA Image Science and Analysis Laboratory, NASA-Johnson Space Center. “The Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth.”
Their description says, “The Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth hosts the best and most complete online collection of astronaut photographs of the Earth.” It has a vast database that may contain all the following NASA links too.

GRIN: GReat Images in NASA
I’m not convinced their acronym is ideal, but there’s plenty great archival images.

NASA PDS Imaging Node
The Planetary Data System has all pictures from every planetary mission NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory have mounted.

ESA Hubble Images
Lots of nice deep-space pictures (stars, galaxies, far-away stuff) from the European Space Agency.

NOAA Photo Gallery
Click the tab “Collections” then select a collection and click “CATALOG” for lots of weather-related imagery.

Megapenny
This site has a really clever way of visualizing really big numbers as stacks of pennies. Lots of pennies, lots and lots of pennies…
Here’s just 50 thousand pennies:

Now try to imagine a million, billion or all pennies in circulation (over 300 billion pennies) or just go see for yourself…
